I had the extreme pleasure last night of meeting with Keith "MojoBari" Bradbury to have some baffle work done on my tenor and bari pieces (Both Jody Jazz). Outstanding. Over the course of about 4 hours, we experimented with different baffle shapes, sizes, and positions and settled on very similar baffles for both pieces. I had been digging the Jody Jazz pieces a lot since I got them. In fact, I sold my Guardala Brecker I after playing the Jody Jazz for about a month because the Guardala couldn't compete with the Jody Jazz. Any regret I may have had vanished after last night. After Keith got done with it, this piece is a BEAST!! Bright, but not shrill. Powerful. And still got some warmth. I was having some bottom of the horn issues last night, but after playing for about an hour today, all gone. Subtone is now a breeze. Great job Keith! And great job Jody! The stock piece was awesome. In fact, all three (alto, tenor, and bari) Jody Jazz pieces facings were very consistant. None of the pieces would have benefited from a refacing. Keith's work just made it the perfect tenor piece for me. I'm just getting back to the bari after not playing it for ten years, so any problems I'm having with it or the piece are my issues, not the horn or mouthpiece. And the alto piece is perfect stock!

Giles:
MojoBari has made excellent improvements to a mouthpiece for me, too.

Is your tenor mouthpiece the ESP or the original Jody Jazz?

For other interested players, would you please describe the baffle - shape, size, height, placement and how you perceive the difference in sound/playability?

Thanks.

It's the orignal Jody Jazz, not the ESP. The baffle is semi-Berg like, with a bullet chamber down the center of the baffle. Not too high, starts fairly close to the tip, but not right at it. Keith might have the exact measurements if he didn't toss the paper. Hey Keith, if anybody else gets the same work, can we call it the Giles Davis I? :D

Giles,
What timing  , I just got back a mouthpiece today I had sent to Keith to fix up for me. It was very dull, stuffy and hard to play on when I sent it. It came back powerful, nice big sound and very expressive....I am pleased as punch with his work. I've played several pieces he has put the MOJO on and I feel Keith does very nice mouthpiece modification and refacing work.

Thanks for the Kudos. Perhaps "Super Giles I" would allow me to double the price?

Giles described it well. Semi-Berg-like. I can toss out some numbers, but this was a very personal fit. We tried 4-5 shapes with poster hanging putty before making a hard copy of the one Giles liked. He has good taste! It was nice balance between cut and body in the sound for him. But different guys have different embouchures and play darker/lighter. I think the method we used was more important than the final shape.

My only regret is I forgot to engrave the work.

BTW, Giles' Guardala Twin Tower Tenor was awesome.
