I am looking at purchasing a Reynolds Stencil, whick looks like the SML Contempora. The horn plays beautifully with a jody jazz DV 7* mouthpiece using a vandoren 2.5 reed. I am in the market for a pro line horn to replace a stolen Mark v1. Any info on the Reynolds? Horn is in decent condition and has been completely redone, pads and action are very nice. Original Lacquer. Feels like my mark v1. Not exactly sure of the serial 198xxx??? Any ideas on what it is worth for a retail purchase(low value-high value)? Thanks for the help!!!
Have not played seriously in 20 years and have been layed off for the winter. I have nothing but time to play and I'm anxious to get back in the 'SWING'

I am looking at purchasing a Reynolds Stencil, whick looks like the SML Contempora. If it just "looks" like a Contempora be very careful. It should actually have Contempora engraved on it. Reynbolds had lots of horns, only some of which were made by SML. Is this an alto or tenor?

This is a tenor with the 'Reynolds Contempora' engraved on the bell. serial number starts 195xxx. I am looking at purchasing this today, Friday 11/13[Impnt];)

If S/N is in the 193k range it can't be an SML (they never reached that output).
If in the 19k range, possible...
The LH pinkie cluster is characteristic of SML, compare with pics (eg saxpics, I think also doctorsax.biz has a page on LH pinkie clusters... hey he also has an SML tenor FS so you can check it out).

Pricewise... depends whether repad, direct sale or from dealer...
SML stencil tenors (incl. King Marigaux) range anywhere between $1.5k and 3k... Sorry about the theft of your horn.

actual s/n starts 198xx. I have pics of the horn and it has serial number consistent with everything I have found about reynolds stencil. Not that I have found much!!! Thanks for the input
