I wonder how many saxophone factories could have existed in Elkhorn, Wisconsin? It's not like Elkhart, Indiana, where there was yet another saxophone factory around every block. So, who made the Getzen of Elkhorn? There's gotta be some Holton connection...

This one looks like some french sax but not sure which. Elkhorn is not that large and as far as I can tell, Gretsch stenciled most of their saxes.

I have had a number of Getzens. Most were marked "Italy". Some are confirmed A. Rampones, some are confirmed R & C's.

They were actually pretty good horns, too. Not much of a surprise, since Getzen made excellent brasses, that they would sub out their saxes to a decent mfr.

I have an old tenor which, I swear...it holds it's own quite nicely against a 10M, 241, Zephyr, Keilwerth, Kohlert, Handcraft, etc....

Pic of some Getzens in my album, under "Italian Stallions".

Apparently, Getzen had a huge fire which destroyed all of their records way back when, so one has to do a bit of "connect the dots" to sift thru their sax history.
Also a tad of info here....

But, Omigosh !!! Just saw the auction.... the one in that auction happens to be a Malerne !!!!!

That's right, I remember....a few folks here have Super Deluxes, and those turned out to be R.Malerne, France horns. This one definitely is a Malerne.

That's a good price if it is close to up and playing, too....

So I guess Getzen subbed to Italy and Malerne....
