The soprano has received rave reviews. Has anyone tried this horn or played it on a gig?

two of my friends have these, and me and another friend have the alto version(520). the tenor plays just as well as my alto. the antiguas are great horns, and well worth the money

i recently bought a 550BC. its a great horn, i use it for my jazz classes and regular practices all the time. its got a great medium dark tone, but not exactly bright, almost in between. i havent had any problems with the construction or anything however, the cork under the G# key fell off. the palm keys stick out quite a bit and are prone to "accidentally" opening when playing at times but nothing u dont get used to.
all together there great horns and like saxy said, there worth the money.
i have a feeling im a bit late though, last post was 5 years ago. =/

That's how I would describe the sound as well.

I've been touting (and tooting) this model for years. Bought mine in 2004 ($995-new) and played the **LL out of it since with NO maintenance required save an occasional leak-light check and if needed adjustment that I do myself.

I have been playing the 550 silver plate for 7 or so years now. No maintenance really needed. Great pads too. The only bad thing I could say is that the silver plate is a bit thin, and wears through after a few years. I am not sure if this is so on the one you are looking at op.
Last week, I bought a new keilwerth sx90r for a lot of money, just to deal with the sticky pad issue, that I never had on my Antigua. There is a slight difference in tone and power, but honestly I so far after a week still prefer playing my Antigua. You really gotta put a good mouthpiece on it though.
When I started out playing this horn, it sounded very dry and dark, and focused. But with a few new refaced mouthpieces, some new reeds, and a lot of wind, I can make my Antigua sound like anything I want to. It is not a bad horn for the money. Just beware of the thin silver plate if you go with that model.;)
