Does anybody know how to reproduce a copy of a mouthpiece by measurements made from the original piece or by casting a mold without destroying an original piece?? What kind of costs would be involved???
Thnx,
Doug

Phil Barone was recently saying he had the technology to do this. Send him an e-mail and ask.

Re: Reproducing Sax Mouthpieces.....
I left my baritone and my alto mouthpieces together in a drawer. When I opened it a week later, there was a new tenor MP wrapped up in a tiny blanket, so I guess it does happen, I did hear some squeaking.

If you are trying to reproduce a copy, ask the person that made the copy how they did it :D

I've had a mouthpiece copied by Ed Pillinger, he does a great job - right down to the engraving. I had this done on a vintage baritone piece as I didn't want to reface the original, so he made a clone, and then did a reface on that.
But he won't do any current production mouthpieces for obvious reasons.
The sound and feeling of vintage mouthpieces can be easily reproduced and also improved in many cases. It is a time consuming process but for sure it can be done. To prove it send me your best playing mouthpiece and I will make for you a perfect sounding clone. PM me for details. Concerning your specific question give first a look to the Clark Fobes website. It helped me a lot in understanding better manufacturing techniques.
All the best,
Stan

Mr Minoru Kubota ( I hope I didn't misspell) of the Aizen pieces knows quite a bit about it so I've heard.
