So during the issues with Grassi #1 (which is now owned by my horn guy for the amount I paid for it), I tried good 'ol flEaBay for a horn.

Holy crap, another Grassi Baritone, same serial number range (karma?), for an insanely low price. The photos provided weren't the best, but everything looked good for a repair-needed horn. It was listed as "May need some adjustments." Again, I hoped that I could snag a good bari for a low price, dump a little cash into it and wind up with a good fun honker.

I figured "what the hell...why not." Maybe fate would be better this time...

The horn arrived.

Oh crap.

Please make it stop....

Not good.

Supposedly this happened in shipping (which seems dubious at best...)

At least the guy is cool; I am shipping the horn back to him for a full refund, plus shipping both ways.

Apparently I was a high brass player in a past life and am atoning for my sins until I am deemed worthy of a bari.

*boggle*

why are you doing this? Have you been committing some horrible action for which you are seeking retribution ?

Seriously, if you stop spending your money on bad baritones I am sure that someone here can help you out of your misery and sell you a working baritone. If you really are so fond on Grassi baritones I might be able to hook you up with someone (there's one low A in Holland for 1000€) if you don't want a Grassi, per sè, then I am sure there are other horns to satisfy you.

Honestly, Grassi have just entered my radar, and I am not sold on any one type of horn.

My current issue is simply fundage;

I technically can afford a $1500 usd horn, but not all at once.

Like I said, it's gotta be karma. Go into the Selmer board and find my "Mark VI OUCH" thread from last year. I am cursed.

CUUURRRRRSSSSED!

Yeuch! There are cheaper ways of self-castigation (starting at $5 BIN in That Auction Site)...

"May need some adjustments" - good one...

Someone had a minty Grassi 2000 Bari on eBay a few months ago. I really, really wanted it to complete my little family, but it was just too much money...

You need to quit buying "fixer-uppers". Baris are notorious for dents and damage.

Stay the h#ll away from that guy, that seller....who was it, Davee84 or something ? or 55145-something-or other ? It's the same guy, he lives in MI and apparently he has 2 clearinghouses, one there and one in L.A.

Yup...man I have seen his stuff on eFlay forever, and they always go cheap...and he has already gotten bad reviews HERE in the eBay section....and if you actually READ his feedbacks on eFlay, many are actually negative comments although the buyer left a +.

Now, seriously.....look at the red rot and tarnish on that upper bow...folks...THAT didn't happen during shipping !!!!! That horn has been like that for years if not decades.....

I "won" a Holton Bari from him...only placed a bid because they don't come up very often at all; so I was taking a leap of faith on the same 2-sentence description, pics taken from afar and at angles to hide all of the extensive damage the horn actually had. I took the horn for $300...and it needs $700 of repair. I was 2/3 expecting this....so....I had braced myself (which was a good thing since the bell brace was slammed halfway into the body tube...so at least one brace worked correctly...)

Faith....is way, way, way overrated..especially in this country....in the new millenium.....

Dude...seriously...are you in the US ? I have 2 low Bb horns in good playimg condition...a Noblet and a Buescher stencil...which I would sell to anyone for $700 + ship. PM me if you are interested.

If you aren't set up to do your own repairs or if you don't have a good relationship/deal going with a tech somewhere, stay away from these trainwreck sorta horns.

It's hard to, I know...because he actually gets horn models which are very reputable.....and he lies in his descriptions so you think the horn might only need a couple hundred of repair (BTW, that is definitely not cool)........but just stay away.....
