I have a Holton '230' alto - circa 1941 - with some nice features. Normally I'm a Martin enthusiast, but this is a nice little horn, and it interests me. Anyone know anything about them- model '230' ?
Thanks, Alan.

It's possible that by this time, Holton may have been importing saxophones from LeBlanc.

I have doubts about the Leblanc connection, the way G. Leblanc tells it now, it was Vito Pascucci's postwar friendship with the family that was their first big connection in the States; and it was years later that Leblanc bought Frank Holton Co.
Interestingly, the lobby of the Holton plant in Elkhorn, WI, has a huge display of old horns, but I couldn't find a sax no matter how hard I looked.

I think Holton only produced saxes to be able to ofer a 'complete' band instrument range - but their saxes never really caught on in the same way as their brass instruments. I think Holton were embarassed by that.
I have since sold that alto, but I still have Holton 20's C-Melody and alto saxes which have 'extra' keys - possibly as an attempt to show innovation. Sadly they are not worth much.....
Regards, Alan.
