It took a while, but I finally landed a Holton Baritone.

I'll end up paying for it, fer' sure. This was a $300 eFlay buy, and jeez...the horn's gonna need about $600-700 worth of work (and that's not even including the repadding/recorking/refelting which I am gonna have to do myself). The body has just been abused...but all the parts are there and the horn is intact. Keywork is actually in good shape...it's just gonna be major dent removal and the top bow is gonna have to come off because its braces are pushed in and it's out of round. Also, the bell brace has been impacted into the body tube.
Nevertheless, I figure even if I go whole hog and spend the $700 on it, that's $1g for an old Holton Bari....so that ain't bad.

The first Holton I have with opposite bell keys !

Serial #251XX. Here's everybody, all together. She's flanked on the left by the 230 Alto and the 243 Tenor, on the right by the '28 Collegiate Soprano, the 265 Alto, and the '37 Revelation Tenor.

Now you need a C-sop and a Wiedoeft model C-mel to complete the family. :TGNCHK:

I know, I know. Not nice of me to pour G.A.S. on a fire.

If you want a Wiedoeft alto, I have one needing some dent work and full rebuild :) It is complete though, including the bakelite Holton mouthpiece.

big five... but there are 6 :? Well. . .big 5 models. The Tenors were so cool, that two seemed to have gotten in the pic (and that's leaving out the 241, right Jaye?)
;)

:TGNCHK: Oh, yeah !, crap....hehehe...heckuva memory, Geaux......

hmmm...the 241's around here somewhere.....

JMoen...the 'Big 5' is my reference to the fact that, very undeservedly, Holton is left out of the pantheon of the vintage American "Big 4" or the '20's-60's (King, Conn, Martin, Buescher). And they should definitely be there....
