I did not notice you were an alto player.

Louis Jordan is easy to listen to as an introduction to the jump blues.

Work out the search function on this site. It is a fun way to find out about all kinds of stuff.

Cannonball Adderley is a must if you're an alto player looking to play blues and jazz. Very soulful player.

Some others are:
Hank Crawford
David Sanborn
Kenny Garrett (not really blues as much, but still check him out)
Charlie Parker (a given for any sax player)
Phil Woods
Art Pepper
Benny Carter

Not all of these guys play blues but still are worth looking into

Louis Jordan blues is a gateway to more bebop blues. :D
