Definitely go for the sound. If you want some more background on a player experienced with Cannonballs, as well as a possible good investment (i.e. cheaper awesome CB), email me directly at WalterNak8@yahoo.com.

thanks for all your help....heres is my main reserve, ive been askin a lot of the pros around town, they all say negative stuff....even my school band teacher, awesome alto player, says stay away from cannonballs...not sure of his resoning....maybe bad resale value??........also, are cannonballs more geared towards solo playing as opposed to ensemble playing, which would be my use for it

The main thing people have against cannonballs is the fact that it is an extremely new company. They have an extremely good product, and I know a couple people with them who have let me try them. They work in any ensemble just as well as any other horn you might want, or better on my opinion. The cannonball in the future will become more respected as a sax manufacturer as they become known, as with any company and any product. If the C-ball is what gives you the best sound, go for it!

I agree with the comments above, but some more prejudice might be geared towards Cannonball's earlier models, which weren't very desirable.

The Big Bells are totally different animals and EXCELLENT instruments, for any type of work. I played professionally in both jazz and classical situations, both in ensembles and solo positions, and never had any problems. I found a Meyer New York 4M worked wonders on the horn, while a current Meyer 5M and JJ #6 were also very good choices.

Shameless plug, I have a CB black nickle Big Bell alto for sale....looking to get $1400 out of it but open to offers. Amazing condition, tweaked and plays great.

Email me if interested WalterNak8@yahoo.com ;)

awesome thank you all for you help.........so last question, now that im pretty much settled on cannonball, what about a mouthpiece....im playing on a Selmer HR C* which is an okay facing...i think that termonology is right.....but it seems a little more classical oriented than i would like, especially for lead playing. What would be ur recommendations for a different mouthpiece, more jazz oriented, metal or non metal, and if i should look into a slightly larger facing....all this to be used with the BBGS Alto, mostly likly the black laquer with gold keys

You might want to look at jody jazz, runyon, or my favorite, the berg larsen, Im not goin to tell you a specific facing, since not everyone is the same. But whichever of those you choose, try and get a couple different facings of the same model and try them to see what works best for you. I suggest that you try www.wwbw.com for those. They have a great policy so that you can return and get your money back for the ones you decide not to keep.

If you can't decide on sound than look long term.I have a friend who had one and he didn't like it so he just sold it for 1,00 less. they are as strong as tanks though. I watched him drop it on pavement before and nothing happened. The cannonball has a distictive look which I am sure you would enjoy as lead sax, but I completely agree with you sound is 100 times more imporatant.
