I recently came across a King soprano (silverplated I think). It belongs to the daughter of a WWII sax player who toured Europe doing the Bob Hope thing. It has the letters CLEV on the bell. I assume this means it was made in Clevland. It only has 2 palm keys and no high F key. Any idea if this is a sax worth buying? If so, for how much?

It will either have "Cleveland" as the name or "King" made by H.N. White, Cleveland Ohio. Either way, they are decent horns, but not worth as much as a Conn or TT. The Eb range makes it less desirable however. If it is playing well and the finish is not too bad, based on recent ebay sales, I would guess in the $500-700.

I recorded on one of these horns a few years back and the key system is somewhat outmoded but the tone is superb, very warm and full..very sorry I sold it.

Anyone ever seen or know of one?

I've seen about 6 of them but none keyed to high F. I've also never seen a Martin curved soprano keyed to high F but I know they exist.

Just get one and have some topnotch tech add a front F...I'm sure that we would all share our opinions on that.

I wonder if any of our super-colletors have one in their collections!?
