What are they like? Metal and rubber. I've been waiting 3 months for Selmer to send me a D nino piece. I've given up. thanks

When I got my 'nino, it came with a metal yani 7 and an HR yani 5. I initially didn't like the metal and ended up getting a few more mpcs including both modern and vintage Selmer examples. I even picked up a vintage Conn. When all was said and done, and I had spent quite a bit of time with them, I had the best tone and control with the metal yani 7....
It's not much, but you can here a (tiny) little recording I did for cmelodysax on it here (http://www.cmelodysax.co.uk/saxophones/soprano/c-sop-sounds.htm).

I hope it works well for you!
BTW - I had some trouble getting the stock lig to work with my 'nino reeds. Ultimately I ended up getting a Brancher from SaxForte (http://www.saxforte.com/accessories/play/ligatures/ligatures.html) and that has worked really well for me. I just really hated spending that much for a ligature...

I've been advised that nino reeds don't fit too well on the Yani metal pieces..that the tip is wider than the reeds. I don't want to use clarinet reeds. What is your experience ? thanks

Vandoren 'nino reeds fit fine from a width perspective, they just are pretty thick - making the ligature extremely tight, even before tightening. The Brancher doesn't cause the same problem. I can take a picture later if you want to see.

I don't have my camera immediately available, but I snapped a few crappy photos with my phone. They're bad, but you should be able to see the the stock Yani lig is quite stretched out and doesn't drop down all the way below the vamp; the Brancher does. Both pictures are of the same Yani Metal 7 'nino mpc with the same Vandoren reed.
If you need better pictures, I will be able to accommodate, but hopefully these will give you an idea.

I just recieved my Yani Metal 5 nino piece today and I love it! The intonation is so much better then with the stock mouthpiece. The lig fits fine too, no problems. The one things I noticed was even the slightest adjustment in tension on the 2 screws had ahuge effect on the tone and playability of the horn. I preferred the bottom screw to be slightly tighter then the top, this helped open my horn right up! I didn't know the little guy had that sound in him.

MW- I have a Yana HR that was worked on by Ed Pillinger. I got it here on SOTW but it is too open for my Buescher TT. I ended up using an old vintage wood mouthpiece. If you are interested, let me know...$100US shipped to UK. I measure it at "about" .047" which I guess would be about a 7 in Yana-speak. Great mouthpiece but not for me.

Thanks Bruce. I actually ordered a Yani metal piece from Howarth on trial last night. BTW I have your TT here..it's good. I played it for Dean and his twins on Sat morning. I bought the bug that was for sale here so the poor old TT's going to be electrofied!

Hi Michael
Let us know how you find the yani mpc.
I play a yani metal 7 and a yani hr 5 refaced by Lawrie Waldron to a 7 they are both good, somewhat bright for me but with good intonation.
I have also purchased recently a new old stock Selmer c* which is darker but stuffier then the yani`s

OK will do. I think the 7 will be too open for me. The Selmer E was too open. Ideally I'd like a nice Selmer D.

That was my initial experience as well, but ultimately, the 7 was what I ended up liking best.
Here (http://www.saxontheweb.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=742754&highlight=selmer#post742754) are some measurements I took.

Thanks again. Yes I'm hoping it will liberate my nino. I think there's a lot in it I'm not getting..oh and I like your clips..the intonation on Pink Panther was very accurate.

Thank you very much.
I have to admit that I had the horn modified (cork lining some of the tone-holes in the upper stack). This causes some of my mid-range notes to be flat or not speak very well (i.e. C2) and I have to open side Bb or C to correct that, but now when I finger B2 and add the octave, I no-longer get C3!
It just takes time and embouchure control as well as a lot of ear-training with the tuner. It was very frustrating for a while though - especially for my wife....

Did it arrive yet. If so, how has it been working for you?

Hello no I actually cancelled it because I have been offered a perfect vintage Selmer D. I'm very excited to receive this. Thankyou for the help.

No Problem.
Let us know how the "D" works for you. Hopefully with some clips!
