I won a couple nice looking Phil Barone mouthpieces on ebay. They both say " Phil Barone New York Ny" on the top. The alto piece is a j6 and the Tenor piece is V7. Without knowing a whole lot about Phils markings I am assuming that the Alto mouthpiece is a Jazz model and the Tenor mouthpiece is a vintage model. Is that right?

Tenor:

Also what are your opinions on these mouthpieces.

Yes. I'm assuming that it has "V7" scratched/engraved into the side, right? The picture almost looks like "V7*." That's his "Vintage" model. I've owned two (both purchased in eBay auctions). The first one was a 7* and it was great. I don't know why I ever sold it. The second one was an 8, and I didn't like it nearly as much. I found it far too resistant for my tastes.

Have you received it yet? Assuming the resistance is right for you, you'll love it -- especially for that price. They usually sell for twice that much on eBay. Deep, dark, textured, and bold is how I would describe it.

If you don't like it, let me know!

I just won so I haven't received them yet.

I have not played the alto, but I did have 2of the tenors. My 7* was really good, almost perfect. Except is was just slightly too open. I then ordered a 7 which was also very good, but didn't have that extra special thing that the 7* had. I think they are some of the best new pieces available.
