It's loud!!! I've gone one that, (supposedly, I've no proof), Brian Powell worked on. Loud and full..........Daryl

I own a Phil Barone Contemporary 8*. I can compare it to:

- Phil Barone Fusion 8
- Berg Larsen 110/1 from the late 1990's
- Dukoff D8
- Runyon Quantum 12 (delrin)
- Vandoren Jumbo Java T95

Compared to these mouthpieces, the Contemporary has the most complex sound. It's not the loudest -- the Quantum sounds louder to me.

The Contemporary is the mouthpiece that I use when the music is too loud form my Hollywood.

I used to own a Contemporary and a Fusion piece.. While they were great pieces, I am still liking my Law Buzzer much more in terms of fullness etc and overall intonation etc. Sometimes with the Barone Contemporary the intonation would sometimes be slightly hard to control.. Both were very nice pieces though... I would say both of Phils pieces were like well made Guardalas.. Much fuller sounding and much more thickness especially in the upper register...
