I wonder if anyone could help me, I've just purchased a 1969 vi alto and noticed that under the selmer logo the R has 3 short wavey line's stamped in the 3,6 and 9 O'clock postion, however my 1968 vi tenor does not have this around the R, any idea's anyone?
are you sure that's not part of the old engraving? it's hard to tell without actually seeing it.

No it's not part of the old engraving just three short wavey lines, I've looked on some pics of 6 engravings and some do have these three squiggles in the 3, 6 and 9 O'clock position around the R.:?

Some MKVI's here in the UK have a small marking made of 3 lines nicknamed the crows foot.
They are ex MOD horns.
It doesn't really sound like your one from your description but just a thought. The MOD marking is more like below but with a line in the middle aswell
