I think my palm keys are too low on my alto and its causing me problems. Runyon makes these palm key risers. Anyone tried these and if so how are they?

I use them on my alto and a couple of my tenors. They are inexpensive and do pretty well. Alternatively, you can make some out of cork and glue them on with E6000 glue (Walmart craft section).

I use them and glue them in with E6000 otherwise they slip around. I use the side key risers also - with E6000. Glue cleans up nicely if later removal is a concern.

I found they never slipped off the palm keys of my Ref 54 when I had that horn. If you put a spot of glue on when they are new, it would probably be safer as the risers can get looser with time, as they are made of rubber.

First, I put the Runyon risers on my Mark VI tenor with no adhesive, and they slipped off. Then I put them on with E6000 and they slipped off. Then I put them on a third time without the E6000 and they've stayed on ever since. :?:

What is E6000 ?
A mulit-purpose adhesive, generally used in crafting. You can buy it at Wal-Mart or any craft store.

It is safe to use on silverplate? (in other words, does it eat the silver after time?)

I use the Oleg palm key risers on all my Selmers. The Keilwerth doesn't need any because the palm key touchpiece height is adjustable. With the rubber Runyons which I use on my Conns, the easiest way to keep them from slipping is to glue a thin piece of cork onto the touch piece and then slip the Runyon riser on. The friction between the cork and the Runyon rubber riser is sufficient to hold the riser securely. This has worked much better for me than trying to find an adhesive that bonds well to both the Runyon riser and the metal touchpiece.

I used E6000 craft glue inside the rubber Runyon riser. Its been holding for many years. Its kind of rubbery, so it should peel off easily should you ever want to remove it.

To answer my own question, it does seem to be safe on silverplate. Or else I just haven't noticed the problem yet.

On my alto I just have wrapped a couple of rubber bands around the palm keys. It works perfectly and it's quite much cheaper than those palm risers. You already have them at home! :-)
On my soprano there was too much to be built up with rubber bands so I shaped some erasing rubbers and fastened them with rubber bands. It works very well too.

Ok, it might not look that well, but if you stick to neutral colours it should not matter. Also you cover them with your hand.
