Hello Ya'all!!!...

I am thinking to buy an alto saxophone soon. I used to play Selmer Super Action I before. Then A Conn 6M caught my ears because of its core sweet and open sound but there are no decent Conn 6Ms around the net. I am living in istanbul Turkey. So I will buy online - that's really bothering me but the economical situations of taking a flight and test an instrument is out of a question right now for me.

I really dug the brands and models of the modern era of the Alto Saxophones and Borgani Alto Saxophone - 24K Pearl Gold Plate Finish somehow I landed on. But anyone could give me an idea about it please? How does it sound like? Does it sound like a little vintage? And the ergonomics are really different than Selmer or Yamahas?

:)

I owned a Conn 6M when I bought my Borgani. I thought the Borgani sounded a lot like my 6M but with a more modern keyboard.

I had a pearl silver alto, that I wish that I'd kept.

I have a Pearl Silver tenor and had a 24K Gold tenor, also that was great, I sold
it to a friend a few years ago, as a favor - but it was on par w the Silver.

In short: great stuff coming from Borgani - if you can try one, you might be hooked.

' Vintage sound w/ a modern keyboard ..' Yes .

I often think about the unlacquered Borgani alto that Roberto's has (or had)...best modern alto tone I've ever been able to produce (because it sounded vintage). Sadly, I couldn't afford it.

I see. Sounds like really good to me. There are three different versions of a Borgani Alto that I like...

Vintage
Pearl Gold and
24K Gold

I somehow don't like the silvers of any alto sax because it gives the tone that bright edge. I am an old-school player who is into Bird's bebop stuff.

So which one you guys can recommend me from the three of them above?

Thank you so much in advance.

I am right now using JodyJazz DV 7 with SAXXAS Ligature and BARI Plastic reeds but as soon as I get my Borgani, I will switch to Mouthpiece Cafe or Peter Ponzol Alto mouthpieces with Rigotti Gold Classic Reeds.

So you say the vintage. Yeah!.. Of course the mouthpiece set-up is another ballpark but still I think I can get Conn 6M sound with a modern ergonomics out of a vintage Borgani alto with my later-on jazz set-up.

There is a lot of urban myth about finish. I would choose the 1) horn you like and the 2)finish that works for you esthetically and practically. Get used to the horn and then play with MPCs, ligs, reeds, etc.

I'd make sure I had the new mpc and reed setup when I went to try
out saxophones, and make sure I was used to it(mpc./reed) .

I've played the Pearl Gold which I would describe as the warmest, the Pearl Silver. the most briestly and powerful, and the Gold Plated the most legit, understanding that these are subjective impressons. All were tenors and were nice. They do not have the same ergos as Selmer, but the ergos are very comfortable and modern.

the sound-wise, Borgani vintage altos really sound like Conn 6Ms? Because I really like the warm sound and Butter sweet action of Conn6Ms.

I would liken it to a Conn alto sound with a bit more power available.
Warmth ? Yes, if that's how you approach it.

So the last thing I really wanna make sure about the finishes of Borgani Alto Saxes...

Tryptykon told me to get the vintage model. Well, actually my music is totally bebop like Bird's era. So the vintage fits my needs? The other finishes especially the pearl-gold really caught my eye but as time goes by, I surely will like the vintage one's honey-dipped look over some period of time. And the last finish is the solid silver one which I don't like the silver saxes at all - I don't know why. But sound-wise I have no idea how notes come up from that particular finish.

So that's it.

And I am so grateful for all of you guys because of your sharings your experiences and thoughts with me about Borganis.

Thanks a lot!!!...

FWIW, I have had two Borgani Jubilee tenors now - silver pearl and silver plate. They are NOT what one could categorize as bright sounding. No how, no way. Fat, lush, thick, creamy, I don't care - but NOT BRIGHT. Shiny yes, but NOT BRIGHT.

Hello Yigit,
I have a Borgani Pearl Gold Alto I would either like to sell, or trade for a tenor. Here's the story. I resumed playing sax 6 years ago, 34 years after giving it up on graduating high school. I bought this sax new at Roberto's in NYC for $4000 and I loved it. I think it has a very mellow tone, but remember that I'm hardly a professional with a lot of experience. I accidentally dropped it, and the bell got a small nick, and it needed some minor repairs. I realized, at that point, that I wanted a heavier made instrument with a brighter tone, so I bought a Cannonball. The Borgani plays well, but I now exclusively play the Cannonball, so it hasn't had much use since I've owned it. If you, or anyone else, are interested, I can email some photos. My email is jimfuchs@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Jim

Why not just get yourself a 6M? The action IS nice, and there are plenty of them available, many from very respectable dealers, e.g. THIS ONE (http://cgi.ebay.com/CONN-6M-NAKED-LADY-ALTO-SAXOPHONE-READY-TO-PLAY_W0QQitemZ320407644507QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_0?hash=item4a99c8a95b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14).
Shipping overseas is generally pretty cheap on altos

On another note(pun intended) :

A Yanigisawa Bronze alto is an incredibly sweet horn and worth serious
consideration if you can gain access to one to try .
