I don't know of any pre-written soprillo sax sheet music. I do know that Jay Easton gets custom-written music for his contrabass, bari, bass, contrabass, subcontrabass, mezzo-soprano, and sopranino, so one could probably have the same thing done for their soprillo.

what genre should i play??? It would be interesting to hear a soprillo in jazz. I've heard a soprillo in a sax choir, so you could play ensemble music. Or you could just improv on the little beast.

'Custom-written music'. Yes. These are called 'Compositions'. Jay has quite the collection of music that has been written for Bass, Contra etc.

I have a lot of it on CD. Nice pieces generally speaking.

I think Nigel Wood is planning to publish some stuff for Soprillo - keep an eye on www.soprillo.com.

And Andy Scott is writing a concerto for its big brother, the Tubax!

I bought a soprillo back in August. Up to about G above the staff, the horn works really well. I have 2 mouthpieces for the sax, and have tried sopranino reeds from strength 2 to 4. At about G or so, the pitch goes rather sharp, and I am working out a fingering system that will allow me to have a flutent technique, and yet maintain a good pitch center.

I have also been experimenting with various voicings in a big band setting...I use 2 sopraninos, 2 sopranos and an alto instead of the normal section, so that the whole sax section is now up an octave. I am thinking of trying a soprillo in the mix, and even using it with maybe an oboe or some flutes...lots to try and see if I can come up with a satisfactory sound for a section, in maybe a ballad or an up tune....

Back to the drawing board...FINALE, SIBELIUS, et al.
