Legere Studio Cut for Tenor?

Has anyone tried the new Legere Studio Cut reeds for tenor? If so, how do they compare to the old Legere?

I have been using Fibracells, but since Fibracell changed the cut to the new profile, they have ruined the reed. :( I'm looking for a replacement that has good resonance and is consistent in strength and quality for classic rock and roll / blues.

I have heard some good players say that the new cut was for the better on the fibercells. For example Rick Condit uses them on a vintage link and sounds great. He also claims that you have to buy three at a time to make sure you get a good one.

whats the point in buying or playing a synth reed if you have to buy a bunch to get one good one? o ne might as well use cane or better yet plasticovers

I've been happy with Fibracells, both old and new cut, on soprano and alto (I use tenor reeds on alto). Great durability with consistency of tone in all registers. They compare favorably with my preferred cane reeds, Hemke and Java.

Recently tried a regular Legere tenor reed -- too stuffy -- and exchanged it for a Studio Cut -- too buzzy. Had a similar reaction to the Legere soprano reeds I tried. Seemed like a lot of effort to blow, yielding a sound that was kinda dead, not singing at all. Singing is no problem for me on Fibracells.

As always, opinions (and setups and players) may vary. Other players may have better results with Legeres. I certainly didn't give them an exhaustive trial at all strengths and configurations. (At those prices, who can?)

FYI, my alto setup is: Couf Superba II, JodyJazz 8, Rovner dark or Optimum lig.

Sopsax - The old Fibracells had that "singing" quality for me. But the new profile Fibracells do not. I've bought about 6 of them and they are all without that "singing" quality. I'm really disappointed and searching for a replacement.

I used a Medium Soft Fibercell Reed for a while, and I had that were the best reeds ever. In recent months, I have ordered over 10 of them, and none are like the first 2 that I got. I even tried ordering the numbered kinds from Charlie A's, and still no luck. Does anyone know when they cut over to the new profile?? Can you correlate that cut over with the number on the back of the reed holder they come in??? Is it possible to get the old profile reeds??

I recently tried the Studio Cuts on both alto and tenor. No question, they are a big improvement over the regular Legeres for the sax. I'm still in the experimenting stage.

I've got a Legere Studio Cut in my bag and I can't play it at all. Really stuffy. I haven't had the time to get back over to the store and move down a size. I'm trying a 3, gonna try a 2 1/2. I have been playing on Fibracell Mediums for the last year or so and have loved them. The guy I do eBay for, Miles Davis, recommended a Legere. At this point, I can't agree with him!

I've been using Legere's for over a year. I had been on Fibracells for about 7 years before the switch. Legere's last longer and allow me easy access to an full octave of altissimo.

I play tenor, and use 3 1/2 reed on a HR 1950's Berg Larsen mpc with a small tip opening, 100/0. I find the legere's to be very flexible tonally, allowing me to access several voices in the horn. Most of my gigs are R'n'B or Blues.

On a jazz gig, I'd use a lighter legere or an old fibrecell.
