Hey everyone,

I saw the Allman Bros Band last night at the Beacon in NYC. It was awesome! The band is electric. On a few tunes, there was a horn section, bari and tenor saxes and trumpet. Anyone know who the sax players are? Both were awesome. The tenor was like lenny pickett to the 10th power and the bari's sound was as big as the theature. He was so into it too-always dancing when he wasn't playing. Id like to check out more of their stuff if anyone knows who they are? Thanks
-Adam

this might be a long shot but.....when I saw Warren Haynes in February (who also plays guitar in the allman brothers) he had Karl Denson as a special guest playing with him for a few weeks. He didnt play any bari though so... It's probably not him but its worth a guess.

Are they regular members of the touring band, or is the band hiring locals?

My first thought when you mentioned the bari player dancing, I thought of Jay Davidson. When he played in my brother-in-law's (now defunct) blues band he was on tenor and was dancing while soloing. Probably not him, have you checked for a band website, there might be some info there.

Jay Collins on Tenor
Chris Carlic- Bari

I forgot the trumpet player.

You can dig Jay Collins on Bobby Sanbreias ( sp?) new CD which is Latin Jazz Funky Blue-Notey
Jay IS fonky and recorded a bit on the Resivor label as a jazz leader.
He's from Seattle, lives in NyC and plays GREAT tenor.

I think,,,He studied with same cat as Pickett, which is Bert Wilson.
Great player and wait till ya'll hear him on flute!!

Thanks a lot Tim! I figured they were local cats. Where does Jay play in NYC? I'd love to go see him.

i'm a sax player who just finished up highschool and for a while i played with a local rock/jam band. we picked up an organist by the name of jon who also took over as the singer (and boy did he have a damned good voice....reminiscent of duane allman himself).....anyway, his father, jimmy, played sax with the allmans sometime back in the 80's. I had the privelage of working with him for a while, and he taught me plenty of stuff...it was very interesting to learn from someone who has played with a great band such as the allman bros.
