Just got my '49 back from it's first re-pad..it was a closet horn, like new and almost unplayed so it's a beauty..my tech who's done many big gun's horns deemed it the finest he ever played..he's right..the sound is even bigger than my prized silver VI and a lighter action feel to it..the tone is the best I ever got on any tenor I've ever played..I had to mortgage the farm to get it, but worth every penny.

I play a 52K SBA tenor. It has no lacquer left, but the sound is just unreal. Compared to my MKVI it has more bottom and the overtones really sing. I agree that the SBAs are excellent horns.
If you have one in like new condition, it is for sure a keeper...

Cash-

My friend plays a ser# 42k SBA in a blues band. It has a seductive core sound like no other sax around. One of the old timers was quoted as saying that the SBA was the best ever.

Good Luck....

Congratulations Cash. I must admit I thought you were nuts when you dropped that much on a horn sight unseen. But I guess you swung at the right ball this time
I'm dying to see & hear this baby. I'm out of town all week but I'll call you when I get back.
