After waiting about a week, through Easter, my new horn finally arrived, :D
It's a beauty to hold, and even better to play. I can easily tell the difference between that and the 700 series horn I play at school.
My question is, have any of you tried and/or own this horn, and what are your opinions of it?
(jr!, I'm looking in your direction... :P)

Well, I certainly own one! :)
I love mine, and it's seen action in just about every conceivable style and playing situation.

I have a Jupiter Artist alto. It has served me well for the last ~6 months. Good sound, good keywork and decent intonation. I played a Jupiter student model before this and this was a definite step-up. I haven't really played too many other alto's so I can't give any comparisons.
I don't find it to be too much trouble in the maintenance department. If you like your saxes looking pristine, then yes it might be a problem, but I can live with all the fingerprints and other smudges. There's some minor tarnish on it in some hard to reach places, but it really isn't noticable.
All in all a very good value.

I play a Jupiter Aritst Bari, and I swear the more I play it the better it sounds. Its played better and sounded better than most any other bari I've played.
I can't say I own the alto, my alto is a bit lower down the Jupiter food chain than that!!
But-having said that I love my Tenor...
I'm a bit neurotic about keeping it clean, so much so that I polish it w/ my shirt at practice in between tunes & I don't even realize it anymore-my guitar player keeps telling me to stop & laughing at me!!
Kareeser what school do you go to??
I used to go to Clarkson, played at their spring concert last week actually...a blast from the past!!

Mentor College, down in Port Credit, :P
Spent a couple days of having people "ooh" and "aah" and "How come it's silver coloured?" my sax, :P
Of course, I didn't mean to show-off, concert was 3 days away...
Yeah, I had that when I went back to CSS a few weeks back, all the sax players were asking about it...
I just LOVE silver horns.... always have...

Is this horn good for classical as well as jazz? I know its silver, so it lends itself to a brighter tone, but i need an alto that can also be dark and round.

i had a 869 SG, and it was a darker sounding horn, to what i found. i now have a custom artist. which plays nicer in my opinion. but it is a nice horn. and is nice for all styles. as long as you have a good set up

3M No Tarnish Strips work good to keep the silver bright.

Merlin;
The more I read this thread, the better I'm feeling about my Jupiter Artist 869SG. But I'm wondering if you would have a suggestion about a couple of things.
1) The brightness is almost too bright for me. This could be related to the fact that I've been using a fibracell reed, but before I was using that it still seemed very bright. Could it be related to the mpc? I'm using a Selmer C. Can you suggest any changes I could make that would help temper this brightness?
2) There's a huge intonation problem in moving from the lower register to upper register, especially the d# is out of tune. I don't play a whole lot, so the problem could be my own embouchure, but even when I was playing consistently, this was a problem. Any suggestions?

Hey, look, it's my old thread :)
I love my 869SG to bits, hehehe... but you're right, my sax is out of tune, especially the F#, which sucks, 'cause that's concert A!
I was thinking of taking it in to a tech to have it adjusted...
