I would like to determine if the serial number's "A" in early vito alto and tenor saxophones was added at the time of the numbers or if it was added later.

My hypothesis is... if the "A" was added later then slight location variations with respect to the numbers and a different texture to the shellac is likely. I hope to make this determination by examining as many photos of vito serial numbers. If you would like to help and own an early vito please take a sharp zoomed in picture of just the serial number and ether post it here or email it to me.

Thanks

Say, have you added my Vito to your list yet? I have the serial and a pic of it on one of the other French Vito threads.

Nissan,

I don't know if I have or not and am away from home for the next couple of weeks. I will look and see if I can find your photo.

Thanks

No but kimsava is regular and the author/maintainer of doctorsax's vito serial number registry. If doctorsax has any input I am sure we will hear.

Part of the reason for doing this is I have seen photo's of one Leblanc Model 120 sax that had an A as the final part of its serial number. There is also one vito sax of this era that lacks the usual A.

I am wondering if the number portion of the serial number was put there by Beaugnier and the A added by Vito.
