It is a beauty!
I wish I had this kind of money for GAS...
Anyway, it was nice to see the pictures. I would love to hear it's sound...

Didn't Rahsaan Roland Kirk play one of these? I think he called it a "stritch".

That is sweet! Roland Kirk did play one (the album I have has him pictured with it). That is an interesting neck design!

If anyone deserved to find that rare neck, it is this seller. The horn is a gem, restored in the best way possible. I wish him well.

Thanks for the kind words. No recordings of the vintage instruments yet.
Does anyone have a prediction for the final price on the ebay straight alto?

No. I would buy it for that. But I won't bother bidding that amount.

I am sorry for the typo on the title, but I couldn't edit it...
I hope someone from this forum buys it, and posts a recording!
C'mon Pete, go for it!;)

I'm guessing $15,000, even with the bad economy.
Do I hear fifteen five?

Someone got a steal of a horn.
But, I've seen several on ebay in recent years. The highest as I recall, went for $11K. Quinntheeskimo bought a Gold Plated straight alto for $6k last year, and sold it for $10k as I recall (I almost snagged that one, but wasn't sure if it was actual gold, or a spray paint job... though to tell from the bad pics; glad quinn got it and restored it to amazing beauty!).
Still, beauty of a horn!

Someone got a steal of a horn.
Everyone else was just standing 'round looking at it - there was only ONE bid.

We were all scared we might win it.

That's what it seemed form my vantage point. ;)
At least no one said "Dude, how cool is that." 8-)

I was playing on my newly rebuilt Buescher alto last night without a neck strap. I was thinking how nice it would be to have a straight horn like this so I wouldn't have to use a strap at all.
And now I see this post. And of course, it is going to sale for over thirty times what I have in my horn.
Sometime the universe can play cruel jokes like this. :(

It would be just as heavy - you'd still use a neck strap, I wager.

Years ago I have heard one a few times - I remember thinking the difference between a straight alto and a curved alto was very similar to the difference between a straight soprano and curved soprano.
