Hello Everyone,
I have played this horn since I was in the 6th Grade. I thought it was junk, and never truely enjoyed it.
I managed to migrate to Bari, played a few years, then went to tuba for marching Band. However, I am in the last year or college, and I have once agian grown fond of my sax. I really wish to play Bari agian.
Now, I looked close at my alto over the years. More recently, I was curious just how old it might be.
I can describe it best with pictures. Here is a link to my Picasa album:

As you can see, the serial number is 6xxxx. It has "The Peddler", with I think CO underneath that. Below, is Elkhart IND.
I have very little knowledge of horns. I can tell a 68 from a 69 Corvette, but this is a new bird to me.
Any help can be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Atnevon

It looks like a Martin stencil to me. The most obvious indication is the beveled tone holes, a feature unique to Martins. If it's in good condition, it should be a decent player with a vintage Martin-like tone.

Thanks for the reply. By being a Martin-esque horn will it be easy to find parts to make repairs?
Also, how would I go about searching for the age approximation?
I look at the keys, and I guess them to be a mother of pearl material, because I know for sure they are not plastic (at least by looking at my friends and comparing. The closest was a friends Cannonball, and those were pearl for sure)
Fun story to share, I remember when I first got the horn years ago, it being dramatically heavier than my classmates. Then agian, they all had brand new student model Selmers. I got picked on for not having a new horn. Now that I look back, who's laughing now?

Try Googling 'Pedler' with one 'd'. I think you misread the engraving.
I've got a few Harry Pedler clarinets, he probably made saxophones as well... (Well, I know he did, I just looked ;) )

I feel retarded now. I saw that and even check some of the other posts. I can find more info on the clarinets than the saxes. I think the only other post was someone looking for screws for their Pedler.
Form what I have googled and dug up, I can't tell if this is a student model, pro, custom, ect.
However, I think from what I dug up about Martin, they were bought in 1958, and dropped the name. Can I be sure at least the age is pre-1958?
Where is Antique Roadshow when you need them?
Thanks for the additional replies.

Here's one about Pedler saxes, mentions Martin..

Funny, when I saw the engraving, I thought the 'The' looked very Martinesque - apart from mechanical features.

Thanks for the lead. I dropped them an email, and hope to hear something back. Well, at least from that post, my horn is at least from 1958 or earlier, I assume.:?

Atnevon - compare your sax to these pictures of an alto that I sold a little while back... Same sax, with different finish/engraving ?
Obviously yours is a little more recent as your bell B/Bb are on the same side.

Harry Peddler (and sons) was a well respected maker of clarinets, originally from England. He retired and sold his business to Martin in 1930 (not 1958), and from that point onward, they were a student line. The product line's logo name was changed to "The Peddler Company" in 1936.
Those clarinets made under the ownership and supervision of Harry prior to the buy out (i.e. pre 1930) are often of very good quality however.
Your horn is likely more a Martin stencil than anything to do with Harry Peddler himself, save for the model name.
