Anyone here played this show? I'll be playing the 2nd book (alto, picc,fl,cl) next month and was wondering what to expect. I assume my book will have a lot of the dreaded clarinet stuff. Going to get the cd now.
Thanx

From what I can remember that book has quite a bit of picc but the none of it is super hard or super high (to about a top g or a?). I'm pretty sure most of the lead flute stuff is in reed 2 also. Most of the big clarinet stuff is in the lead book but there are some really nice clar/alto sax voicings in this show. Not much clar in the 2nd book that is of real importance.

Thanx Benny. I'll concentrate more on flute and piccolo

The changes in 42nd st. are very fast - often barely enough time.
There are some tricky clarinet passages, and one extended underscore solo in act 2 on the Reed 2 book.
The picc parts are almost all unison octaves with the flute on Reed 1. Tuning is crucial.

this might be a cool idea for another subforum (lol, like we need more, eh?) "Musicals/Pit Orchestras" or something like that. And we could discuss difficulties of certain books of certain musicals. Or which parts need which doubles. Or horror stories from the pit. etc. Just an idea...

I totally agree - a very good idea for a sub-forum. I have seen other websites with the intent of having that sort of discussion but they've never really taken off. Seeing as this site is already so popular why not start it here.

I played this last month, and although I was on Bari, Bass and Clarinet (Reed VI) I saw that reed two has a sax solo towards the end of one of the songs, can't remember which one! The changes are very quick and a lot of pieces run into each other, which doesn't help
