Has anyone tried a BARI Joshua Redman model tenor mouthpiece?
I can't seem to find any information on this mouthpiece.Just curious.
Thanks.

I guess no one has played this mouthpiece. My reason for asking is that Music123.com has this mpc on clearance for $179,list is $400! For that kind of money you can get a good custom piece.
Thanks for looking

Hi!
I tried out the Redman piece about a year ago and found that the tuning was a little wild which was suprising as the tip opening wasn't that wide. Even with the slightest pressure the tuning would jump and that was a shame as the piece was good in terms of tone. I would personally not recommend you to buy it but who knows....it could be the one for you. However if you didn't like it I don't know how much luck you would have in shifting it on. Reduced from $400? Wow! It wasn't that much when I tried it. I think about $180 would be the right price anyway.

Thanks for your reply Alex, that helps. I know some of the mouthpieces
you find on clearance at WW&BW and music123.com are probably those that have been play tested and returned by customers who didn't like the mouthpiece. I didn't see this mpc listed on the BARI website so maybe its
been discontinued.I might just buy the mpc and send it to someone and have custom work done and see how it turns out.I play a Barone mainstream mpc but like alot of tenor players I know, I've got a drawer full of mouthpieces I don't use,why not add another.
Thanks,
Hector

I'm not really sold on all of these "endorsed" mouthpieces. Redman is still playing on the Otto Link hard rubber from the looks of the May/June 2004 Saxophone Journal. The Bari piece may be fine but I'm sure it's based on something else that you can get for a much better price.

Hi!
I'm glad I'm not alone in my scepticism with regards to "endorsed" pieces.
I was fairly sure Redman was playing on a HR Link. The Bari piece I seem to recall had a chamber setting similar to a 1 or 2 Berg...but it was a while ago. And why add another mouthpiece to your drawer anyway? I've just sold all of my unused pieces and have even forsaken the Holy Grail Guardala Laser trimmed (Tenor) for an off the shelf 5* Metal Link....(it's superb). Having grown up on high baffle pieces the transition has been less of a shock than I thought it would be. After a club date last night I can only assume I've found one of those Links that are just a cut above the rest. I found that the Guardala was a little like trying to swim through a sea of Mars Bars at times but the Link is effortless. Good luck with your search. Mine, at least on Tenor, is finally over.

I guess your right, why waste more money on another mouthpiece.I'm actually pretty happy with the Barone Mainstream piece I'm using now. Probably the best piece I ever owned was a slant signature link 5* but I dropped the damn thing off a stage one night and shattered the tip, ouch that hurt. Thanks for your replies.
