My 18 yo son's P Maurait sax was stolen from a locked car the night of May 1st. Also taken was a custom trumpet. Both my son and his trumpeter friend are talented high-schoolers, in fact scheduled to play this Thursday at the Artist Quarter jazz club. Back to student instruments, it appears.
If any one in the Twin Cities area sees a P Mauriat PMXA 67R alto in antique finish for sale under questionable conditions, please send me a PM.
Thank You,

I'm in the same boat with my daughter's horn. Check Craigslist, eBay and all of your local pawn shops and file a police report ASAP. Best of luck to you in finding both instruments!

I hope you are as lucky as our family has been. I just found out that both instruments and a couple of suspects were taken into custody this afternoon at a local Music Go Round. My wife had sent notifications to local music stores and pawn shops to lookout - and it paid off. I know my son will be hugely relieved. He had lost his horn and knew it was his fault. Rarely do hard leasons cost so little - although it may be months before the horns are cut loose from being evidence in a felony. Thank you for your kind reply.

It's too rare that you hear good news on a thread like this... Congratulations on a great outcome.

I hope you have solid proof of ownership of those horns! Cops won't release them if you don't (I'm screwed if anything I own is stolen!). I'm sure you do, you sound like you've done your homework :) .

You may want to contact Bruce and have him update his Craigslist ad (and remove the serial number of your son's sax from the listing).

I'm glad your son and his friend were able to recover their horns so quickly. I think I would probably die if my horn ever dissappeared on me like that.
On a side note, I was able to catch the second set of your son's group. Man, they sound fantastic! Not only were they each excellent individual players, but they had a very good musical awareness as a group; something you don't really hear in many high school groups...or many college groups for that matter.

Dohertyjazz, thank you for your kind words regarding my son's group. They had just picked up up their horns from the police that morning. I suggested, facetiously, a rendition of “Reunited”. They played well and with some extra joy. Must have been you I saw up front.
It was amazing good fortune that the horns were recovered – but my wife';s determination was key. She did the real work of contacting all the possible outlets that the horns might come to. The perp is still in jail on “unrelated charges”. The police took photos for evidence.
Fundamental advice for a stolen horn: the pawn shop or music store can only call the police if a case number has been provided. Call the police to get the file on record. Then blanket the shops with that information.
Thanks all.
