Do alto sax stands with a so called "claranet peg" work for holding both an alto and soprano sax?
Or is there a more special stand designed for holding both alto and sop?
Any suggestions for particular stands are welcomed :)

I have an LA Sax stand (from WWBW) that I use for my alto. There are clarinet and soprano sax pegs that attach to it, although the sop peg was out of stock when I needed it, and I ended up with a stand-alone sop stand.
A sop peg should be much thicker than a clarinet peg, so I wouldn't use a clarinet peg for the sax.

If you have the straight soprano (which I suspect you do) then I would suggest the K & M stand that has supporting legs which screws apart and collapse to fit inside the sax bell and case with no fitting problem. It's a German made product I think. Nothing better as far as I'm concerned. For a permanent sax stand at home, you may want that nice Maple wood stand. It's pretty and works great. Mike

Do not put your soprano sax on the clarinet peg, it will not be secure. You can buy a soprano sax peg to replace the clarinet peg that comes with the K&M alto or tenor sax stand. However, I prefer the folding sop stand from K&M (mentioned above) that fits inside the bell of a straight sop sax - it is always ready for use and is quite stable.

I also like the K&M stand, and have used it for many years. It is called the K&M Deluxe Folding Stand. They have the same upper section available as a peg, but it has a metric thread and may not fit other stands that use the more common 1/4"-20 thread. Unless your stand is large and stable, it may not be advisable to put a soprano on a peg. The heavy soprano out on the end of the usual stands, with no other saxes on it, will tend to tilt.

I have an alto/clarinet combo stand and bought a sop peg thinking I could replace the clarinet peg, but the bolt on the sop peg was too small. I use a separate sop stand with the proper diameter peg to give max support. Now I have an extra sop peg in the drawer.

I use a Konig & Meyer stand, but when I tried to purchase the soprano stand, it cost close to $50 while the trumpet stand was only $18 (the store must have had them mispriced). The only real difference between the two was the diameter of the top peg was much larger on the soprano than the trumpet stand. I bought the trumpet stand and added foam to the peg to fit up inside a soprano. While the soprano stand didn't work with my C-sopranos, the trumpet stand with the added foam works well with all of my horns.

The soprano peg for the K&M stand costs about $20 equivalent, here in the UK - and it is an imported product here, too, coming from Germany.

The K&M soprano stand which folds and goes into the bell for storage on straight sopranos is a great stand. I use it regularly with my Selmer Paris horn. However, the stand does not fit in the case for friend's Yamaha soprano. There is not enough clearance on the end. So, check out the clearance in your case, if it fits the K&M is recommended without reservation.

I have 5 sopranos with 5 different cases. None of them have enough room for the K&M stand.

Mine fitted in the Protec case I used to have, the Yani I had after that and the Selmer Lite I have now. I have to admit the Yani was tight.
Will the folding stand fit inside a Mark VI soprano case?

cc- I have a friend with a Mark VI soprano and this same K& M stand. So I would assume it fits in his case. He may have another case though. I see him only once a year at a Baptist Music conference. My guess is it will fit. Mike

On some cases it is necessary to remove some of the padding at the end of the case where the K&M interferes with it. Fortunately this is in a place that when removed it will not affect the security of the instrument. Simply slit the plush lining, remove a bit of the foam padding, and glue the lining back in place.

Basically, with the new folding sop stand from K&M, you have a disc of about 2" across and about 1/2" deep protruding from the end of the sax when the stand is in the bell. I found with the Yani case, for example, I was able to compress the padding by hand sufficiently to make it fit. In the Selmer Lite/Protec cases, it just made the horn a bit of a tighter fit. If you have a hard shell case with no 'give' or padding whatsoever, then you may have a problem - but then, it may not be such a good case anyway.
