For those interested in the new Maxtone (Taiwan) SX63 Series. (pro line)
I know it can be difficult to find pics and info on these. Those who have these Maxtone (taiwan) know they are just as good as any of the others coming out of taiwan (Mauriats etc..)
I ordered a few horns out of curiosity and was more than pleased.

These look to be a hybrid between the Mauriat 67R (RTH) and the System 76. (larger bell and bore), C Whisper key added and now have adjustable stacks, Angled Logo Plate.
The horns I received are of super professional build quality. Of course I added my own touches (finish, engravings etc..)

Rich Centered Tone (similar to the older selmers) Huge sound/resonance.

Below you will find the link to some of the pics. Hope it helps. :)

B, I am holding onto the horns at the moment. I just sold the one locally to the pro player.

For those asking, yes Black Nickle Plated Body and Silver Plated Bow, Bell and Keys.
The other alto is Gold Plate.

The new series are no question a pro quality horn. I'm not sure which factory these came out of, but quality control is first rate. Workmanship is A1. No blemishes of any kind.
They are visually stunning to look at in the finishes I got them in, coupled with the engraving and key touches. Fairly heavy , not thin in any regard.

As I mentioned earlier, they are a bit of a cross between the system Mauriat 76 and thr 67R. I have not yet tried the Tenor. The alto is warmer and a somewhat centered darker sound, but with GUTS. (The system 76 tends to have a slightly more focused sound). Keywork / Blue needle springs are alittle tight, but easily remedied. Ergos are almost identical the Mauriats, Barones etc.. Altissimo was quite effortless. All sx63's now come with brass thumbrest and thumhooks (no plastics) and adjustable stacks. (the mauriats lack adj. at the moment, but probably right around the corner.) The sx63 altos have the Super Jazz VI Style neck (threaded- ala mauriat)

In fact, I got my son a Mauriat 67r recently for a jazz combo at college, he swapped it for one of the new Maxtones. And he is very picky. He said the horn was nearly identical to the mauriat is every aspect, but the maxtone was much more visually appealing and had slightly more guts on the low end. He may be right, but " flash" is certainly a part of the equation.
For the money, I dont think there are any horns that can beat them. Then again, I dont like to pay retail. :-) (who does ?)

Feel free to stop by and try one if you are in S.FL area. I dont think there are any dealers in the south. They (Maxtone) are well-known in Asia and Pacific Rim I believe. Randall may know more about them than I do.

Cheers :-)

Kept the one I wanted and sold the others. I will post the other two in the marketplace.

The tenors are closer to the system PM 76 but with rolled tone holes. (not the 66)
The altos are more of a hybrid (system 76 and 67R) with added features. Threaded Neck (PM Jazz VI), C-Whisper Key.
