Hi,
i need more info about the tenor sax i have right now.....It's an "Elkhart" ...with SN 8543...a nice vintage tenor, any one who knows the history of this kind?.. i was told it was a conn..is that right?..what is the current value of this sax?.any info you can share is much appreciated..

There has been lots pf discussion about the Elkhart branded saxes. Some have concluded that some were made from parts bought from different manufacturers. Most all of what I see on your horn looks like a Buescher.

Compare the LH stacks:




The keywork looks like Buescher no doubt. The base of the posts are round like Conn and Martin. The bow rings are similar to Conn, but not the same. The feet on the key guards are rectangular, but rounded off unlike those found on any of the other manufacturers'.

To me, it looks like a Buescher True-Tone in disguise. At some point Buescher bought the Elkhart Band Instrument Company and started calling their second-line models "The Elkhart - made by Buescher". Maybe this horn is a precursor to those models.

In any case, your horn looks to be a strange but wonderful beast.
