Is there any difference besides finish with the Selmer Reference 54 and 36 models?

Yes, the part that counts.

Go for the tone.

If you go to www.saxquest.com, you'll see that they, too, have observed a difference in the two horns. The principle differences are in the necks and the bow. The bow is larger on the 36 to enhance the low end response. Much of the general character of the horns follows the necks. I've swapped III/36/54 necks among the different horns to see for myself. If you want a bit more punch and a less "focussed" sound out of your 54, try a 36 neck on it.

Ref 36 sounds more flat or round ?
Do you think 36 has same degree of thickness sound with 54 ?
How's the weight compare with 2 horns ?

If memory serves me, one is more like a balanced action and the other is like a MK VI. Can't remember which. :?

36 => Balanced Action.
54 => Mark VI.

I'm wondering more 56 user or more 36 user.

I heard in this market, many players consider Ref 36 is more worthy to buy than 56. Not sure the real reason, perhaps the look of the horn is one of the factors although it doesn't hurt the sound.

I was of the opinion that more people - at least around this forum - have owned the Ref 54. I recall being surprised to see other Ref 36 owners.

Why not initiate a poll for actual owners to learn the numbers? I'd be interested to learn how many people actually own a Ref 36/54 tenor.

Add my vote as a satisfied Ref 54 owner. (I've had it for about 18 months) I really like mine. The MkVI stays in the case these days. Never thought I'd say that. :!:

I wonder how many people to make engraving on their Ref 54 ? And will it have any negative influence on sound ?
