I've heard a lot of positive things about the JJ ESP. Does anybody have any experience with his hr/plastic tenor piece?

It seems that Jody's plastic alto mouthpieces get all the raves over the tenor ones, but my ten year old son is playing a JJ #7 on a Martin stencil tenor and he loves it. He was having problems with other mouthpieces in getting all the notes, but the first thing he did after putting on the JJ was smile and say, "Wow, this is easy!" He's got a decent sound for a ten year old as well. I myself found it very free blowing, although I'd prefer a larger tip opening. I'm very happy with other tenor pieces that I use, but wouldn't hesitate to gig with a JJ plastic.

My understanding is that they are made from 20% synthetic rubber and 80% acrylics

Synthetic rubber? Believe they call that plastic. If the thing is plastic call it that, if it works who cares but it ain't rubber if it ain't rubber!!

Does it matter if it plays well? We deal in an aural medium, it is how it plays and the sound we get as a result.

Thanks for the opinions. I think this might be worth the gamble.

The material is Santy Runyon's secret formula that I don't even know exactly. I do know that it costs 6 times what other plastics cost and that I've had player after player tell me that they love the way it feels, sounds and how it vibrates. And there is a component of synthetic rubber in it which may be one thing separating from other plastic mpcs.
