If I wasn't so instrument rich I'd have the $ to buy it. Guy doesn't want trades... Anyone want a YBS-52, and a VI Tenor...

Ditto jazzcat.
It's an awesome novelty.
But how often would you really play it? It's so big you can't really take it around either.
The novelty would wear off quick (even though it's really awesome), and then you are stuck with a huge instrument that can't fit in your closet, bed, or even kitchen.
Unlike SATB, it's not really a 'musical' instrument.

Quite UNTRUE!!!

i play in a group that consists of BASS SAX, TUBA, BARITONE GUITAR, & DOUBLE BASS. The bass sax player is known throughout NYC as a "firebreather" of a tenor player but when he plays his Bass it is the most beautiful, soft, cello like playing he does. The Tenor for him is the novelty and the Bass is where the real lyrical music is for him.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN UNMUSICAL INSTRUMENT...
Just an Unmusical player...

Theres a niche for every instrument!! quite true, but on the whole you are not going to see a bass sax out.
Maybe in the states theres the odd one or two out there ata gig, ive never seen one at any local jazz venues in england[south west], great sound i think, its nice to listen to deep schrott!!..they have made a niche for it!!.
ile stick to the baritone thats got enough for me!

I only know of 3 fulltime bass sax player in NYC.
I'm a bari player and there aren't many of us out there!

My only point of debate was that the Bass isn't a "musical" instrument. I find it to be the most lyrical of the horns...it really is down to the player...

If I had the cash It be great to take along to gigs that my daughters and I sax trio gets. The audience loves seeing the cute Yanagisawa SC-991 curved soprano my yougest plays and the little sopranino I play(i play mostly baritone the sopranino is used sparingly). The audience would love the "beast". I have played a bass before and YES they are a musical instrument.

a new Keilwerth BASS for only 8500$? It's a bargain! But is it a Bass? The pictures are not very clear to me (why take a picture in the plastic wrapping?) could be a baritone misinterpreted as a bass (not such a Bargain anymore). Bass saxophones are incredible !

I got pictures from the guy, and it is definitely a bass. Wouldn't accept trades which was depressing though. Oh well. Back to the drawing board.

Wow, I'd love to hear this guy. What's his name?
And I'd love to hear you for that matter, I'm always in search of new big horn players. (I'm slowly working the bari into my arsenal as well)

Check out our website:

"De Bajo" is the group mentioned above. Stefan Zeniuk plays bass sax in that & I play the Baritone Guitar. "Coconino" is the Big Band & Stefan plays Tenor, Bass Sax, & Bass Clarinet. I play all the guitars and Bari.

He had this same horn up for auction last week. The auction ended on March 15th. The price was the same, as were the small, crappy pics. If he sent other pictures to SaxPlayer1004, then why doesn't he post them on eBay? It might increase his chances to sell the horn.

It seems like a good deal on a new Keilwerth bass, if you're looking for one. It just seems in today's economy, these high end horns are just not moving like they used to, and in general the ones the sell, having been selling for less than they did a year ago.

Reality is, bass saxophones are not really "must have" items. I suspect 99.9% of pro players could survive without getting a new bass sax at this time. Weekend players and hobbiests are not likely to rush out and buy one either.
