We just got in late yesterday 2 Medusa saxes (1 alto, 1 tenor). Have only had a chance to do a quick toot on each but what was interesting were the 2 that we received. 1, they were not setups that I ordered. Still waiting on those. They sent me a matching pair of:

Goldbrass Classic
Silver Plated Keys
Silver Plated Bell & Bow
3 necks

The 3 necks included are:
yellow brass, lacquer
solid nickel, lacquer
Goldbrass, silver plated.

Initial impressions from the 15 seconds we got to spend with them... Wow.

Will post a review on these when we have had ample time to play them as well as a review on the standard models once they arrive.

Dave-

Do you plan on carrying the necks to be sold separately? A well known poster on this site has revealed that the B&S silver neck sounds fabulous on certain "S" horns!

Dave,

Will you be ordering several different models of the Medusa, and which ones? I am curious to hear about the different models available. I recently heard that a model is being offered in silver plate ball blasted. Is this true? That would mean B&S would offer the ball blasted finish in both brass and silver. Interesting.

How does the keywork feel?

I just received a brochure from B&S today in the mail. It does indeed list the material and finish option of sterling silver and glass-ball blasted ST FS/L.

Best to my sources, no they are not offering a silver sandblast finish.

The brochures I have seen do not indicate that the 2 finishes you specified can be ordered together. The ST is a Sterling (Solid) silver. The FSL is a sandblasted lacquer.

That is odd. I completely believe you, but I don't understand why B&S listed it in the brochure. They list 4 options under "Sterling Silber" (german for silver I assume): ST KL, ST FS/L, BBST KL, TST KL. The latter 2 refer to bow and bell in sterling silver, and tube in sterling silver, respectively.

Any chance you can scan that and e-mail it to me at music@kesslermusic.com?

As for the finishes I am planning on stocking (and have on the way), primarily just the gold lacquer and the sandblast.

Dave,

I just sent you a scan

I stand corrected. They appearantly do make a sterling "silber" (most likely a typo since the v and b on a keyboard are right next to each other) in a lacquered sandblast.

I can check price on that for you if you like.

Please do. My guess is it will be out of my range, but I would be curious. booyah1717@yahoo.com

Is there a particular finish & metal your shop prefers?

I will let you know when we have had enough in side by side to sample.

Typically, I dont care for silver plated horns for 2 reasons: 1. too thin sounding 2. hard to keep looking new... darn tarnishing!

I personally have always preferred a heavy lacquer. I like dark rich sounding horns.
