I'm trying to figure out the vintage(and possibly the value) of two of my alto mouthpieces.

One is a metal Selmer Jazz. It has the logo on the back in brass(the rest of the mpc is silver), says Paris under the logo, and has the opening(C*)etched on the table.

The other is an Otto Link metal STM that I was told was a Florida model, but how can you tell with alto mouthpieces? The color is more yellow than the current links, but it has "USA" on the shank.

I've tried looking in places on line like MouthpieceHeaven, but all I can find about Links is about Tenor mouthpieces, and all I can find about Selmer is about the scroll shanks. I'm stumped! :?

Thanks.

Well it is difficult to tell the vintage of the selmer Jazz mpc. The logo change is the only way I have seen of dating them. Old selmer logo versus the current selmer logo. If there is brass showing then the piece has been used quite a bit or modified. Selmer uses a good bit of plating on the pieces.

Now regarding the link. The color is different than the current "Gold" ones. The USA on the shank is fine if the facing number is on the side of the mpc near the table. If the facing number is below where it says USA, then you have a newer version.

I'll go back and practice, I'm sure there will be some link experts to speak up.

cheers.
