Hi,
what mpc would be a good choice for a Conn 12m?
I prefer hr mpcs but if a metal one should be the way to go I would consider that too. Mpc would be used for playing Jazz, should be available without to many difficulties and should be able to handle the 12m intonation issues (yeah, of course the player should be able to handle those problems, but there might be mpcs which will make this easier and vice versa).
Would appreciate any help.
Thanks.

I use a STM Link 8 with some hard reeds. Tried some of my other pieces, only the larger chambered pieces worked right for me.

This has been covered here before, but I'll make some suggestions anyway.
First off, the Conn is a versatile horn and will work well with just about any mouthpiece. Many well known, and not so well known, baritone players favour the 12m.
Here are some 12m player set-ups, past and present:
Joe Temperley-Link STM 7 (actually, Joe has 2 12m baritones. A late "Chu" that he plays with big bands with a Link STM 7 and a silver-plate 12m tranny that he plays with small groups with a Link STM 9.)
Gary Smulyan-Link STM with a "wedge" added.
Mark Lopeman-HR Link "slant sig".
Danny Bank-HR NY Meyer
Dan Block-generic old HR piece
Kurt Bacher-Link STM 7.
Harry Carney-HR Woodwind & Co.
Gerry Mulligan-HR Gergory (Later a Gale made by Gregory)
Charlie Fowlkes-metal Berg
Scott Robinson-several pieces including a Vandoren of some kind. Google him for photos.
I play a Woodwind & Co or a Link STM7*.
I would say that the rubber or metal Links are the most popular match for a Conn 12m. Rubber or Metal Bergs should do as well.
Other options could be a Brancher L chamber (sort of Berg-ish), Lawton (always a good baritone choice) or some cheaper pieces like a Runyon.

Thanks for your input! I thought that this might have been covered before but didn't find the thread. Sorry for posting again. Would be great if anyone had the link.
Lots of votes for the STM. Is there any hr substitution for it?
The Woodwind & Co. should be hard to get. I think there is a new one under that label but it might just be the label. Don't know if it has anything in common with the vintage design. Any experiences with the new Woodwind & Co. here?

The Tone Edge is the HR version of the Link. They also have large chambers so they'd be fine. I personally use an STM 8* on my Buescher True Tone. They and 12M's have very similar requirements in needing large bore mouthpieces.
The nice thing about the Link metal mouthpieces is that they have a profile very much like a hard rubber 'piece. I don't like most metal mouthpieces like Bergs and Dukoffs because of the skinny profile. Links feel more normal to me.

Yes, the secret is out, and the new ones aren't anything like the vintage pieces. If you've got some time, I'd order a rollover RPC from Ron Coelho. It's hard rubber, will have a decent sized chamber and you can request one with an extended shank (5 1/2") that'll play fine on your 12M. I use one myself for an earlier Conn bari in which the intonational quirks are more pronounced.

I have a 250k 12M Silverplate tranny, and use a Doc Tenney HR Link. I like it, it has a long shank which helps on a Conn. I used to have a Woodwind and Co. good sound, but the stock facing was too closed and would have benefitted from a refacing.

I am getting good results with a Morgan Vintage. I got it from Junkdude.

I play an Otto Link 6* with Rico Jazz Selects. Intonation is great and the mpc sound fits the 12m perfectly. I would say a Link Or Meyer is a good pic.

Thanks for all your input.
Any opinions on the Pillinger R?

BlueHodge, did you use the new Woodwind Co.?
Goldbeck metal can produce a fine classical sound, and chamber is large enough not to disrupt intonation on a 12M (if you can find one!)
