Seriously, folks - it's a terrific solo that is only a step beyond "Careless Whisper" in difficulty. Anyone with a couple years' experience should be able to figure either of them out in under an hour (I know this from experience). Think about it, it'd be a great first transcription exercise!

I have only been learning the tenor for 8 months now but it is the one song I must learn one day, such a nice piece from an old fave band of mine, so, if you are still sending them out i'd be very happy. :D Thanks.

I agree that it is probably a better excercise to figure this out, however there is nothing wrong with offering others the opportunity to have the proper trancription. so if anyone does have it I would love to recieve it. thanks

Thus, I'd love a copy myself for tenor;larrycleung@gmail.com. I did figure it out on alto, years ago, but I really don't do well writing rhythms. I'd love to see how well I did on that count.

Once upon a time, there was a little red hen, who lived on a farm. She was friends with a lazy dog, a sleepy cat, and a noisy yellow duck.
One day, the little red hen found some seeds on the ground. The little red hen had an idea. She would plant the seeds.
The little red hen asked her friends: "Who will help me plant the seeds?"
"Not I," barked the lazy dog.
"Not I," purred the sleepy cat.
"Not I," quacked the noisy yellow duck.
"Then I will," said the little red hen. So the little red hen planted all the seeds by herself.

There seem to be a lot of lazy dogs, sleepy cats, and noisy yellow ducks lurking in the woodwork of this forum, making one post to get something for nothing, then never heard from again. Just sayin'...

Yes, We try not to over acknowledge their existence. I'm always annoyed by them however. Dunno what these type of people are in real life. I imagine most of them are younger kids, just learning saxophone. Or people looking to make a turnaround from something they got for free.

Ok, I've seen so many of these request that out of curiosity I spent 30 -45 minutes last night and transcribed the sax part for the whole tune. Now my question is..........if I post this on my blog, is that a infringement of copyright? Or is it like transcribing a solo? I'd be more than happy to post it but I don't want to break the law. As a side note, I didn't realize that was the Brecker brothers on that recording. I started listening to it and thought "That tenor player sounds pretty darn good, not your typical pop sax solo" turns out it was Brecker............

Is that because the sax solo contains a melody? If it was just a improvised solo no copyright but a melody is copyrighted?

I once discussed this with the MCPS. Any improvisation that is based on a published work, ie it is in the arrangement of the tune, is owned by the publisher, however different. Their argument is that it is derived from, or would not exist without, that work.
In the case of your latest trick, I'm not even sure that is an improvised solo. Plus, the fact that it is written out and appears in the sheet music means that the copyright is owned by the publisher of that work.
Usually publishers don't do anything about people publishing or distributing transcribed improvised solos so everyone gets away with it, but if they chose to make a case, they could.

I can see where someone transcribing and posting it for a free would not get the ire of a publishing company, however, I can see publishers or copyright owners seeing this a little differently when someone is making a profit from their material!!!

I would suggest not if you purchased the sheet music yourself. If you transcribed it yourself then yes. Also if it is a link to a third party website then yes also.

Wow I like how a useless few pages of junk finally evolved into a thoughtful discussion. I would also like to point out that the problem was solved on the 13th post, saxsolos.com. I'm not affiliated with that guy but I've bought his solos and he's great. This one woulda cost $.50. Though I'm not sure it is even worth that much considering the simplicity of the part... but saxsolos.com is great for more complex stuff.
