Mine doesn't. It's a 388xxx series single socket.
My 259xxx Zephyr neck does.

My silversonic alto doesent ether, and thats a 379xxx with double socket neck from around 1961. I know the very early ones do from the late forties but not sure of the cut off point for doing this.

My King Zephyr does not have a serial number on the neck either and I know for a fact it's the original one because my dad got this horn brand new.

One of my books entitled "the sax & brass book" shows an early super 20 alto, late forties, silver neck, brass bell that has quite clearly got the serial number stamped on the neck, when i saw this i was a bit worried that mine wasent there but on the bottom of the socket on mine there is a ring kind of engraved around it so no chance of the number being buffed out or the ring would have gone as well.
Anyboby know what year they stopped engraving the number on the neck?

"When did King stop marking the serial number on the neck?" That's a good question, as I, too, would like to know the answer!
As far as the originality of the neck, King necks are rather distinctive (underslung, silver, double-socket, etc. notwithstanding various changes on these themes the farther down the production line one goes) and not terribly common, so the likelihood that it's not the original neck is quite low, I'd think, even if it lacks the serial number on it.
Just a though, anyway.
