A buddy of mine that works at the same company I do is subbing on bari for the DoctorFunk band in Seattle. I only took lessons from him for two months, but really like his playing. He rocks! Take a listen and see if you don't agree: http://www.gandalfe.net/cantfightthefunk.mp3.

Dig that bari... Kinda makes ya wanna pull it out a woodshed. 8)

Is his name Scott? About a month or so ago he was in Las Vegas for a computer convention and came down to the Riviera to hear Lon Bronson's group. I happened to be playing that night and let him use my horn for a couple of tunes. Seemed like a nice guy. He said he wasn't on any of the recordings though...

Nice fat sound. The whole band would sound completely different without him humping away down there. Gotta love the funk!

Yep, Scott's the man. My recording of him playing isn't as good as the CD but trust me, he too rocks with a big full coming up for air sound.

What's this, a Tower of Power tribute band? That bari player definitely has been listening to Doc Krupka. I like his sound - real dark and deep, but still biting.

Hello everybody!

Just wanted to set a couple of things straight -

The bari player on DoctorfunK "Prescription for Soul" is Fritz Whitney, I was with the band for two years. Many of the tracks I sight read in the studio, in hindsight I wish I could have had more time to shake them down on gigs but as they say hindsight is 20/20.

The currently bari player joined the band in early of 2004. Scott is a helluva player and a good guy... keep the truth going Scott! LOW NOTES LOUD!

Doctorfunk is, more or less, a Tower tribute band, but thanks to much support and help from Tower has started to develop its own thing. And yes the name is based on the Funky Doctor himself.

One quick aside, I was really honored when Doc Kupka asked the DoctorfunK horns to play on his upcoming Strokeland Superband III release. Nothing like the pressure of playing bari on Doc's own album! I hope I pass the exam! No more rubber gloves please!!
