Hi

I just saw (again) this Amati alto sax. I can't find this on their website so I guess this model isn't made anymore (although it looks very new, but probably just kept this way). It has sort of a matte silver plating (but regular lacquered keys). Is this actually silver plating or something else? It doesn't have a smooth surface and looks more "textury" and maybe almost "glittery".

Any clues...?

Thanks

clarinbas,

Amati, on their previous web site, displayed pictures of a large number of alternative and custom finish options. The new web site does not show these pictures currently.

They offer various plating finishes in gold, silver, nickel, black nickel, and custom lacquers, rainbows and metalflakes. Since they do all their casting, plating and finishing in-house they can basically finish any horn any way you want.

They still offer this custom service for all brass instrument finishes. Speak to your local dealer/distributor.

The horn you are describing sounds like it is a silver metalflake lacquer, with gold lacquer keys. Or it might have be matte silver plated, with gold laquer keys.

sounds like matt silver where the horn is sandblasted / media blasted as part of the plating prep so the horn has a textured look (lots of very small little dimples in the surface basically)
