I recently acquired a Rousseau Studio Jazz (SJ7) and love the warm intimacy and dead-accurate intonation. However, one area has me puzzled: the tip opening. According to wwbw and threads on SOTW, the tip opening of an SJ7 is .071." My SJ7, while plays flawlessly, measures at .081".
I looked at other websites, such as Conn-Selmer's Rousseau division, and they all state vague measurements such as "medium", "open", etc.
Is my SJ7 just another byproduct of manufacturing inconsistencies, or does the tip size of .071" lie within a different numbering? I have suspicions that the SJ5 model holds the true tip opening of .071", however, any verifications/suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thank you.
