I am a natural born improvisationalist and musically inclined. Played sax for 8 years in grade school and high school, dropped it for like 18 years then took it up again two years ago. So, I'm self taught + prior rote which taught me already a lot of what I know about music (I have been playing keyboards all this "down" time on sax, and a prolific composer). Mostly, I need someone to advance me within what I already choose to do with my music. Probably, mostly having a competent player that I can jam with and get pointers from would be my ideal "instruction". It's about time I checked myself into the clinic ... ya' know? :-D

Thanks for any leads.

I saw this thread (http://saxontheweb.myforums.net/viewtopic.php?t=11408&highlight=san+francisco) but didn't really give me much insight.

Also, practically next door to the downtown Berkeley BART station is The Jazzschool, which has a variety of instructors - www.jazzschool.com

I've heard good things about the Jazz School. I'm no longer in SF, but I know some sax players in the Bay Area that would be able to help you out. Email me using the link below if you want info.

I just had a lesson with a pianist (1st lesson in way too long) that REALLY opened me up to some new ideas, so don't limit yourself to only saxophonists.

Thanks for the replies. I'll check out those tips. I need a good excuse to go to berkeley more often so the jazz school definitely deserves a look. Probably also a good way to meet people interest in a short term side project, of which I have several in mind. Might not hurt me to take some piano lessons, too, actually, since that's my main instrument (synth).
