was doing some research for some stock, and came across Conn-Selmer. I believe it was some site called ForRelease.com, and it mentioned that Selmer had sourced some products from Asia. I was under the opinion that Selmer made their Paris products in Paris, under careful construction....can anyone elaborate on this?

Perhaps it was Selmer USA.

Isn't Selmer (and maybe it is Selmer USA) distributing those so-called Bueschers (the BU series)? Those are either Taiwanese or Chinese - and the one I saw was not well finished. As far as Selmer-Paris, those are made in France as far as I know. DAVE

I saw a Selmer Bass sax of the SA80 series that had the same round ring type bell brace that you find on all Tiawanese saxes. The brace was held on with three screws, not the ring type brace that Selmer has used for decades. Curious!

I am a Conn-Selmer dealer out of need, but one of the workers that makes flute key parts for my flute line told me that Selmer had terminated a bunch or workers at the Elkhart factories due to "outsourcing". They do have that Conn International line that is from Taiwan, so go from there. I think I'll order an Alto and see what comes. I have seen some asian flutes with the Buescher name, better than China but no where near Japan or US for quality. One of my case suppliers in Elkhart has closed and now I need to get certain odd-sized cases (C-foot Octave flutes) from China. Not my choice, but I need cases! I doubt Selmer will un-Paris the saxes, but who knows, Powell has an asian flute body line now!

Dave- Yes, that would be Selmer USA.
Lownote- I believe the flattened ring and 3 screws was copied from Selmer by the 'knock-off' companies, not the other way around. They started that sometime around the SA-80 series. Wasn't the MkVII also screwed on?

yes, Selmer USA/Elkhart is having a fair amount of their horns
made in Asia now. The 'USA' line is still made in Elkhart, tho(for now).
Paris stuff still comes from Paris(or, Mantes, actually :) )
