I've never seen that web site before, I had no idea White was still around at all, anyone know who is actually running things and do they have a store front? Think they would let me play around with the near mint Super 20. :D

Some grandsons of Mr. White, I think, are running the White company archive and collection.

This one looks like new, like it's hardly been used.

That horn was on E-bay about a year ago. I almost pulled the trigger on it but the pics were not as good. The seller was located in Ohio also, so I guess HNW closed the deal after the auction ended with no bids. The opening bid amount was $3150. They are getting their horns the way we all do.

What an incredible opportunity for some lucky person.

You can get darn close to that without spending near that much. Just buy a Zephyr made between 1948 and 1958, as they have pretty much the same sound and action as the Super 20, except the Z has an all brass neck (which some say makes them a bit darker--good these days, eh?), and a different LH platter.

Saxophyte,
I have all the info to back up my claim. The E-Bay Item was #250217028420, listed Feb, 2008.
The seller's user name was "miknnee" from Youngstown, OH. The horns serial number was 388212 with a smudge in the laquer. Unless you purchased the horn fron this person, I think you may be in error.

Zephrys have a great sound but the intonation leaves a lot to be desired. I know where there is a really good one that I tried as a back-up horn. It was hard to believe how good it played but I had a real problem playing it in tune. I guess you could get used to it. I do a lot of duo gigs and I don't think it would work for me.

My Super 20 is about the same vintage, but it isn't nearly as pretty as that one...

The 20 is opposed to be better than the Zephyr by 20 points (hence the name Super 20). The only Zephyr that is in the same league with the 20, IMO, is the Zephyr Special - it is said to be the template of the 20.

I recently posted a thread regarding an as new 1959 (i think) silversonic tenor on ebay from soposedly the HN White family, got some interesting comments to! check it out. the one i saw went for just short of $5000.

The other thing that can also ring true here is a sax that mint and that year could also have been found to be that bad a player even when new that no one has ever bothered with it, hence the condition, remember this is ebay and not a proper shop where one can try before they buy!
