I think once a year it would be interesting to have some kind of mass forum post of where we are at playing wise or musically. I've learned from and enjoyed hearing Mp3s from various posters here on SOTW and been interested in hearing the progress evolution over the course of time. So maybe once a year a post like what the four guys do on the post a sound clip of you playing here. As far as what I've heard, I like the stuff Nefertiti has done for playing a straight ahead casual jazz gig, Bootman has some very cool bari, and alto work and has pushed the realm of "out" playing in some of his tenor stuff. I really like Tom S/s tone and ideas on pop funk stuff. All good players who I've met on this forum. Vader (or was it Vortex) did a great solo on that one pop tune Mp3. Subtone has a whole slew of nice pop stuff. Many others also. Comments? K

Looks like nobody wants to touch this potential hot potato, Kieth.

I threw that up on the forum right before I was rushing off to work on friday and as I drove to work I started thinking that it wouldn't serve anyone to comment. There are plenty of people posting sound clips on their webpages, sending out Mp3s, etc and you can hear who you want if you want. Music is so subjective also. I played a job friday night where I played very well, Saturday I pushed too much and played the same old licks and most people probably couldn't tell the difference between the two nights. Just enjoy it while it lasts. K

Keith;
I have not had the pleasure of hearing any of these other guys mentioned above.. but.... I gotta tell you, I got to hear Tim Price live this past Sunday, for a mini concert/clinic, in a small room, in the basement of a department store with about 80 other people. He had with him one the hottest rhythm sections I ever seen. This was one the greatest live performances that I've enjoyed. Rachel Z on keys, Rachels friend Mr. Ray on Drums and Scott Lee on Bass... and Tim playing his #$% off on everything including a hot bassoon. So, based on this performance, I gotta say.. Tim Price. Great Band, Great Players, Cool People!!

I know and have heard that Tim is a "heavy". Just never heard him myself. K

While I haven't heard EVERYone on the forum, I've heard a lot of stuff through the "post a clip of your playing" thread, and I've really enjoyed the work of jtrey and homemakerjeb
For live music in general, the most incredible thing I've seen in the past year was not a sax player at all, but trombonist Frank Lacy, a true monster.

Since Tim Price is my instructor, I suppose I'm somewhat biased in choosing him as the best I've heard...but if you've never heard him live, and have the opportunity, DON'T pass it by!

I recently listened to some of Tim's clips off his web site. Amazing stuff! Tim is the real thing.

Certainly you guys don't expect me to answer this and live to tell about it?
I plead the 5th.

I like my own playing best. Why bother playing, otherwise?
I realize that sounds flippant and arrogant, but I sincerely mean it. I've listened to the mp3 recordings of all the previously-mentioned folks, and they're all fine players deserving of respect. But I love to play, and would rather listen to myself than anyone else.

hmmmm,
I have been hanging out in the "Post a soundclip of your playing here" thread and my first reaction is Lovetheblues, Greg just plays in a style I enjoy. I also enjoy Bootman, and Keith Ridenhour (though he is so self effacing I wanna slap him). King Perkoff comes to mind too. Can't really say which I like the "best." I like em all ;-)

What I was getting at was trying to find a way to check out posters on the forum to hear various performers at various levels of playing. I've heard some posters Cds, some tapes of gigs etc but I bet there are very good players I've seen posts from and have no idea what they sound like or are into. What I think would be especially interesting is to watch the progress of some of the guys/gals on this forum over the course of monthes/ years as they take advice and instruction from all the great people that participate on this forum. There are great pros playing and posting on this forum but I have to admit I gravitate toward players that are a couple of years ahead of what I'm doing. In other words levels I could potentially get to. As I've stated before I miss the college days where you might hear a good player three doors down in a practice room and walk over to say, "man that sounds great , what the heck are you doin?? ". As I think about it alot of guys are using the post a sound clip of you section to do all of this. I'll have to check that out more. K
