So today is FEB 6 and i was informed yesterday that talent show auditions are FEB 17. So we have about 2200 kids at our school and about %70 of those students will most likely see it in one form or another. Now the acts aren't that good except for a couple. The Clark Brothers, The Wright Kids some names you may have heard of. Anyways me and my friends are looking to play a little something simple. So i need some suggestions on what to play. Instrumentation:

Two Saxes (Alto and Tenor or Bari)
A Trumpet or two
A drummer
A bass player
And maybe a guitarist.

So I'm looking for a song that would be popular for some high school students and people would know. So most likely some OLDIES Rock or something. I was thinking stevie wonder superstition but i don't know yet. So any help on some songs and PLACES I could find them quickly. We really don't need to play our performing piece for our audition but i would be nice.

Thanks

Find a good midi arrangement of the song you want to play (www.vanbasco.com is a good place to start searching). Then download Melody Assistant from Myriad Software (shareware). With it you will be able to make any necessary changes to the arrangement, transpose parts where necessary and print out sheet music for the individual parts. You can even suppress parts and export to mp3 to create play-along tracks to practice with.

As far as what to play, I like old Chicago stuff (Beginnings is one of my favorites), Tower of Power, Earth Wind & Fire, Average White Band. There's a new group called The Bomb Squad that has some good Funk stuff too.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Also, Chameleon by Herbie Hancock is a great tune, and it might be a better fit for the instruments you have available. If you decide to go the Melody Assistant route and have any difficulties with the program, send me a message. I use it a lot to create backing tracks to play along with and have figured out a lot of its quirks.

if u don't have any chord instrument your in trouble. get at least the guitar player and see if he can play any stevie wonder (cause stevie plays keys and they're pretty unmissable in his music). i would say take chameleon from hancock: it is simple and playable. or take cantaloupe island or watermelon man
good luck
