I got a modern Meyer USA but had it refaced by Eric Drake so that it was a replica of a New York Meyer. Eric did mention that my reed preference would probably also change. I did notice that my Javas are not sounding so hot on my meyer anymore. I did try RJS and they seem to be alright and ZZs and Traditionals are just horrid on it. I haven't had much experience with V16s but I did hear that Phil woods seemed to like them with his Meyer. Do you think the V16s would make a good combo with a Meyer like mine?

Any reed should be fine. Could it be that the mouthpiece facing does not suit you as well as the original, or that it may take time to get used to it?

Well, I did hear that certain mouthpieces are not as reed friendly as others. In my opinion, the reed isnt all about tone, its also got to feel good when you play on it. For example a bad reed is usually one where the player has to force large amounts of air through, just to get a stuffy sound. I'm more of looking for a reed/MP combination that can achieve my sound and feel great.

Yes,try the V16's.
I've always liked them on anything.

<go ahead, it's a setup>

I don't really like meyers that much, but V16's sure sound lovely on them.

A Mk VI alto is a pretty good match for a Meyer. Sorry, feeling silly.

Personally I don't care for the V16's on my Meyers and prefer Java or Rico Select Jazz. LaVoz is also popular with Meyer players.

I've always used Javas on my Meyer. Did you try new Java reeds when you got your mouthpiece back?

Why don't you ask Eric Drake what reeds match with the new facing of your Meyer?
