I'm greatly interested in the Raven, a recent instalment in the Cannonball's Big Bell series. Anyone know how it sounds?

A local guy played one and he really liked it a lot. Couldn’t tell you how it sounded, i never heard him test play, but he is a tough critic of all things saxophone, so it cant be that bad at all.

I own a raven alto. LOVE IT!!!! My teacher used it while her VI was in the shop, and she loved it too. Great horn, particularly for the money. Pretty too.

I've got a raven soprano on layaway at work. Any chance i get to take a break i pop into the back room with it. It responds really well and is the most relaxing soprano I've played.

HI There:

Was out sax-shopping with a friend today (she wanted a second set of ears) and she and I tried out the Raven tenor. I'm not my any means a 'real' tenor player, but I read the 2nd book with a big band around town, and have tried out a fair amount of intruments. I was VERY VERY impressed with both the sound and the feel and the look of the horn. The first thing I did when I got home was pop up here to see what the word was on Cannonball horns, b/c at the price ($2599 Cdn list) I figured there must be something terribly wrong with these instruments <grin>. What a pleasan surprise to find that my impressions are matched by those of others. In conclusion, I liked the Raven the most out of the 4 Big Bells we tried, as I found the sound to be most focused with that finish.

PS-Saxy Nate, are you by any chance involved with a certain slightly-off-the-wall trad jazz band from Fresno?

Sure am but not sure if its the same one. Im in the fcc band under mike dana which is a pretty out there band. Think Mcneely, a drunk Thad Jones on crack and youve got our style....and most of our players.... 8)

I just Bought a Raven Alto and IM so Happy with it. I can hit the high notes with no problem, same with the bottom. it sounds beautiful even if I hit a wrong note.lol I can do so much more with it then with my old 98 knight because it plays so easy. When my band members heard me play it for the first time they had grins on there faces almost as big as mine. It looks so nice that I really hate to blow spit into it. I highly recommend the Raven. Oh yeah, I E-mailed Sheryl to thank her and her husband for doing such a great job and ask a Question about my sax, and she E-mailed me the next day with my answer and also is sending me a T-shirt. its only a T-shirt but It blew me away and it shows the kind of service that these people give their buyers.

The Raven is the best sax Ive ever played. The sound pops right out at you w/ o hesitation. It sounds better than it looks and thats saying something. The 2 necks really help the sacx out.
