This is listed locally. It goes WAY back. Just wanted to know if this is a horn worth investment or is this simply a conversation piece.

cant read the serial, some significant changes happened in the 20's. Also, can you do some of it yourself? May be able to be brought into playing condition with just pads, some corks and felts. Really depends. I havent played the old tenors but the 20's altos have a real nice tone.

Serial number is 90,xxx looks like it's from 1921 - I can't tell if it's Silver or Gold.

It won't have a front f, unless you have one installed. Now I dig the TT altos and sopranos, but actually favor the later Buescher tenors of the Aristocrat stage over the TT tenors. May not take to high baffled mouthpieces.

The seller sent me the following info in case anyone else in interested in this horn as I'm really 70/30 on the NOT buying side at the moment:

It was given to my family in the 1980's by an elderly gentleman by the name of Royal Sherman since my brothers and I were actively involved in marching band. At that time it was in playable condition. Mr. Sherman had served in the U.S. army during the WWI era and was a member of one of the many army bands of the time. It was my understanding that this sax was issued by or through the army though I haven't been able to substantiate that fact.It is definitely not a C-melody sax or stencil sax. Until four years ago it was stored in its original wooden case in my family's attic, thus the drying out of the pads and such.(Unfortunately the wooden case was in very bad condition and could not be saved.) If you should come across any information regarding the army's policy regarding the issuance of instruments, I would appreciate the help as this is an area that I'm also interested.

$200 for a Truetone tenor, I say go for it! I absolutely love mine. If I lived nearby I wouldn't bat an eye. I'd buy it. Those can be great horns!

these pre 100k tenors are closer to an aristocrat than to your average 100k - 255k tenors. Huge tone, better ergos... I'll post soon pictures of a customized 92xxx TT tenor (also, this serial won't have snaps!) I did a modified g# key, added the front Bb key touch on the LH pinky table and added a front F mechanism.

If it was round the corner I would definitely definitely want to look at it. If it isn;t badly damaged and it really isn;t a c-melody it must surely be worth having at that price. I have an old TT tenor of similar vintage with a nonoriginal neck which I really like. I really should get a "mint" TT tenor. These horns are ridiculously underrated in comparison to the altos and later Buescher tenors. That's just my opinion, based on quite limited sampling.

I have a Buescher TT and love it. 200 bucks is a bargin. Find a good tech though and be ready to spend more. I play mine everyday and a high baffled mpc works great. It actually brings out the beast in the horn.
